Intermark report: Bans on entering Belarus may apply to Russia

Bans from entering Russia as a result of receiving a ban from entering Belarus are on the rise. The joint ban to deny entry to the corresponding country was agreed between the two countries in March.

In accordance with the agreement between Russia and Belarus, dated March 3rd 2017, a denial of entry to Belarus is acknowledged as grounds for denying entry to Russia and vice versa.

Denying entry to Belarus and Russia

The border control authorities of the two countries exchange data of nationals from third party countries, who have received a ban from entering their territory.Denial of entry to Belarus may be imposed on the grounds provided by Belarusian legislation, including a violation of the rules for entering and staying in Belarus.As of the 4th of October 2017, violating the of rules of the five day visa-free regime, which was introduced in January 2017 for nationals of 80 countries, has frequently been used for grounds for denying entry to Belarus.
