Mayfield is a leading independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11 to 18, set in the beautiful, yet easily accessible Sussex countryside.  Only 50 minutes by train to central London, 40 minutes from Gatwick Airport and about an hour from Heathrow.

Mayfield has an enviable academic record, exceptional pastoral care and extensive extra-curricular activities. Mayfield girls learn how to combine rigorous academic study together with a diverse range of activities beyond the classroom.

From dance to top class equestrian facilities fencing to debating, Mayfield challenges its girls to realise their full potential, providing them with a lifelong love of learning in order that they leave mature, educated and independent young women, confident in their beliefs and prepared to make a positive difference in the world.  At Mayfield, each girl is accepted for who she is and we instil in her the confidence to find her strengths and build on them.  We will give her the time, space and emotional support she needs to flourish.  We will expect her to think independently and our enthusiastic teachers will inspire in her a lifelong love of learning.  We will stimulate her imagination and nurture her creativity in every subject she studies.

A Mayfield girl is challenged to set herself demanding targets and helped to find strategies to achieve them. She will learn to question her own and other people’s ideas and we expect her to make informed decisions. Her actions will be inspired by a sense of justice and integrity, sustained by her respect for others.  Overall, she will have the chance to grow to be herself.

Mayfield is a vibrant community. Traditionally, we have attracted pupils from all round the world, as well as locally. We are able to offer a very supportive boarding structure, which ensures us to support what best suits your daughter’s requirements.  From day to full boarding, there is an opportunity to flexi-board and weekly board too. We have  day pupil transport which covers a large area of Sussex and  Kent, as well as a weekly bus service available to and from Central London which leaves at 4pm on a Friday and returns on Sunday evening, giving your daughter time at home over the weekend.  For our full boarders we have a wonder array of activities and trips so there is never a dull moment!

Such a cosmopolitan ethos helps the girls to understand and appreciate different cultures and perspectives and to value diversity. Friendships are forged here which sustain and support not only through School, but on into the future and we are proud to welcome successive generations of girls back to Mayfield.
