Kingham Hill School is an independent, co-educational boarding and day school for girls and boys aged 11 to 18, nestled in the heart of the glorious Cotswold countryside. The school is located in Kingham, Oxfordshire, just 80 minutes from London Paddington, in a stunning 100 acre estate where pupils have a safe place to explore, enjoy and make their home.
With just over 300 pupils, Kingham Hill remains deliberately small as this allows the school to sustain its caring, home-from-home community where every child is nurtured, challenged and inspired to succeed both academically and within their personal lives.
Established in 1886, the school was purpose built by the Christian philanthropist Charles Edward Baring Young. He put his faith into practice by establishing it as a place where children with a boarding need could be educated and prepared for life. Since then, Kingham Hill has educated thousands of children who have benefitted from the caring, stimulating and supportive community which ignites a passion for life and learning in every child. The Good Schools Guide described the school as "...a supportive community of pupils and teachers treating each other with respect and kindness in this area of outstanding natural beauty."
The school offers a high quality education within top class learning facilities where every pupil has endless opportunities to learn, excel and realise their potential. Our small class sizes allow us to provide tailored support to pupils so they can achieve their very best results. We pride ourselves on being an all-ability school, and this approach has led The Telegraph to rate us as ‘A Top Small Independent School’ for highest A levels. Our latest A level results saw 45% of pupils receiving A* - A grades, and 70% A* - B. Pupils secured places at top universities including Oxford, Bristol, LSE, Edinburgh, Kings College London, Exeter and University College London.
The school has a unique American Studies Program which allows pupils the best of both worlds, the opportunity to study at a traditional British boarding school while working towards their High School Diploma. The program is the first course in the United Kingdom to be developed in conjunction with and supported by the US State Department.
Kingham Hill School has a range of beautiful Victorian stone buildings which sit alongside modern facilities including our multi-million pound Maths and Science facility: the Veritas building, and a new library, which was completed last year. Pupils also have access to woodlands, playing fields, astro-turf pitches, an obstacle course, and leisure centre with gym, sauna and fitness centre, as well as the school farm!
We have provided a home away from home for generations of Kingham Hill pupils over the last 130 years – and we pride ourselves on creating an environment where everyone feels part of the family. We can do this as our houses have far fewer pupils than many boarding schools, with an average of 20 – 35 per house. This means they feel like large family homes and everyone has an opportunity to play a key part in the life of the house.
We believe that it is a wealth of experiences and opportunities that help to shape a person into who they are and will become, and we believe that education and school life are no different. We priortise development beyond the classroom to ensure pupils leave us as rounded young adults who will become happy and successful in their future lives. "The strength of the school community is remarkable. Students receive a high quality education in a supportive, warm and beautiful environment" NEASC, June 2015
