Durham School provides an excellent education for girls and boys aged 3-18, in the beautiful setting of Durham City. We provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for around 580 pupils of 21 nationalities.
Whether you are relocating your whole family or are considering weekly or flexi-boarding, we can meet all of your needs.
Our mission is to provide a complete education; one which instils an aspiration for achievement, a respect for others and a confidence for life.
We provide:
Durham School has two departments located just 5 minutes apart
The Senior School has five Houses, four of which cater for full, weekly and flexi boarders. We have a dedicated sixth form centre, careers office, science centre, theatre, music studio and practice rooms, café and more. Our Prep School also offers fantastic facilities; from an outdoor adventure playground to a fully equipped science laboratory. Our extensive grounds overlook the World Heritage Site of Durham Cathedral and Durham University, and are home to numerous rugby pitches, cricket greens, indoor swimming pool, all-weather pitch, a gym and a boat club.
Durham School Boat Club is the third oldest boat club in the world and we are the fourth oldest school rugby club in the world. We are also the only All-Steinway Accredited School in the North of England, enabling our musicians to practise and perform on the finest pianos in the world. Chapel is a pivotal part of School life and, although of Anglican heritage, we welcome all faiths and beliefs.
Our extracurricular programme has this year included radio broadcasting, first aid training, resolving global conflict and psychological profiling to name but a few! We have a justifiably high reputation for music, sport and drama and also offer many activities that encourage teamwork, leadership and community work, including the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the Combined Cadet Force.
Durham City is an historic, vibrant university town in the culturally rich North East of England. London, Edinburgh, York and Newcastle are easily accessible by road and rail, while Newcastle International Airport (40km) and Durham Tees Valley Airports are within easy driving distance.
