Digital start-up aims to improve international student sustainability

A new website that makes it simple to find, apply and enrol at universities abroad is working to help students study in a more environmentally friendly way.

Studee.com aims to transform the way international students find their university abroad, while addressing the negative impact international education can have on our planet.
Digital entrepreneur, Chris Morling, has launched his latest start-up venture, Studee.com. It aims to transform the way international students find their university abroad, while addressing the negative impact international education can have on our planet. Studee has launched Trees for degrees – the one million tree project – that will allow students to study abroad in an environmentally conscious way. Studee is on a mission to transform the way international students find their university abroad by putting its CSR strategy at the heart of the business, making giving back one of its top priorities.Studee has partnered with Plant-for-the-Planet, which will plant trees for every student Studee enrols, to contribute towards absorbing the CO2 released into the atmosphere each time students fly to their chosen university.

Reinventing how international students find a university

Studee co-founder and CEO Mr Morling believes that the process of enrolling at a university for international students is outdated and not fit for purpose for today’s “centennials” – a generation that has never known a world without the Internet and who will bear the brunt of climate change. He set up Studee with best friend Simon Andrews, who has worked in the global higher education sector for more than 20 years, building the BigChoice Group – an international business, helping millions of young people with their careers.Mr Morling says, “Studee is reinventing the way international students find a university by making it simple and deeply personalised, while adding transparency in an industry which, in recent years, has sadly suffered some corruption and has largely ignored the climate crisis."

He adds, “I believe education is the most powerful way to positively change the world but I’m also addressing the elephant in the room - the fact international education has negative consequences for our environment. So for every student we enrol, to contribute towards compensating the CO2 released when students fly to their chosen university, we’ll pay for trees to be planted on their behalf. Our goal is to plant one million trees over the coming years and transform the way international students find their dream university abroad. Studee will grow up rapidly over the coming months, we’re overflowing with ideas.”
