IKAN report: Deadline extended for mandatory linking of Aadhaar
The Supreme Court of India has extended the deadline to link the biometric identification number, Aadhaar, with banking and mobile services.

Challenging the constitutional validity of Aadhaar
The apex court is currently hearing various petitions, challenging the constitutional validity of Aadhaar and it's enabling act, including the linking of bank accounts and mobile numbers with Aadhaar.On 15 December 2017, the apex court extended the deadline for mandatory linking of Aadhaar with various services and welfare schemes until 31 March.This may come as a relief to any resident of India who has failed to link his/her Aadhaar to their mobile number or bank account.Related stories:

The Constitution Bench of the apex court is currently reviewing challenges to the constitutional validity of the Aadhaar scheme, on the touchstone of the fundamental right to privacy on a number of petitions.Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI – Aadhaar’s issuing authority) has clarified that the requirement of Aadhaar for opening new bank accounts will continue, while the deadline for linking it to existing bank accounts, mobile and PAN has been extended by the Supreme Court.IKAN Relocation Services shall continue to track further developments on Aadhaar card hearing.
