International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme  (DP) and Career-related Programme (CP) students across the globe have received their results from the May 2016 examination session this week. The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a popular choice for relocating families due to its strong academic reputation and its international transferability.

An IB education caters for pupils from the ages of three to 19, and focuses on each student as a whole person, which means that IB programmes address not only children’s intellectual development but also their social, emotional and physical progress.The IB has proved itself to be the success story in secondary education over the past 30 years, and it is now recognised as an entrance qualification to universities in more than 140 countries.

The latest cohort of IB students means that the community of IB graduates stands at almost one a half million in 136 countries across the world. Almost 5,000 students will receive their diplomas this year making this the largest exam session conducted by the IB since its introduction.

This year’s results showcases an average global diploma score of 30.07 points (of 45 possible maximum), with 146 students achieving a perfect score.It also highlights the consistency of the global diploma pass rate, which, according to the International Baccalaureate Organisation, continues to remain stable as the community of IB students continues to grow.

UK students achieve top IB scores

This year, the UK’s average diploma score beats the global average at 34.66 with a pass rate of 94 per cent.The Career-related Programme is the newest addition to the IB’s education offering and is designed for students who would prefer to engage in career-related learning while gaining transferable skills sought after by employers.“I’d like to congratulate all the students who are receiving their results, a fitting return for all the hard work and commitment they’ve shown in completing their learning,” says Dr Siva Kumari, IB Director General.“Independent research confirms that the IB improves students’ academic achievement, as well as their probability of secondary school graduation and university enrolment, and it is clear that our students are better prepared to succeed in post-secondary settings. And, perhaps more importantly, they’re better prepared to contribute in helping to make the world a better place.”
